It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas !!

Apologies for my silence for many many weeks - things have been quite hectic here.  We are now entering the final week of school for 2015, and the boys are excitedly wishing for Santa to arrive.

We have decorated the tree, wrapped lots of pressies and started our Christmas cooking - shortbread cookies, Christmas pudding....

We ventured in to town (to the Island) on Friday to see some Christmas lights and decorations. The boys had to finish their Christmas shopping which is always fun! I love that the boys are still fully in to Christmas and love all things festive. It's not going to be that way for much longer with them being 8 and 10, so I will enjoy it while I can. Oh, and how did they get so old so quickly ??

After having two Christmas's in India with little to no decorations, it was lovely to have some festive spirit again. It's a strange thing living overseas and experiencing how Christmas is or isn't celebrated in other countries. As an expat, I see it as an opportunity to experience these cultures and show the boys that all the cultural differences are a wonderful.  We have enjoyed the craziness of Diwali, the joy of Dussehra, Mid Autumn festival, and are looking forward to Chinese New Year and many more of the Chinese celebrations.

When it comes to Christmas, Hong Kong is only half as 'decorated' as Australia but at least I can find wrapping paper, Christmas pudding ingredients, decorations, good wine !!!  All of which were a crazy hunt in India, and often with no success.

We have felt a bit sad about not going home to Australia for Christmas, particularly now that many friends are packing to return to their home countries for the winter break. However, this is one of the many things that, as an expat we have to cope with - missing things. The reality is we can't be home for every important event - birthdays, weddings, funerals, Easter, Christmas..... which is sad.  However, we also have an opportunity to live this crazy expat life that many will never see, so we will make the most of it while we can.

I hope to blog a bit more in the coming weeks with a few fun things planned over the holidays. x
