Following on from my last blog, I continued my wandering and visited a couple of the local open wet markets in the east of the island. I always love seeing and learning about all the unusual foods available in a Chinese wet market.
I don't think we will ever get used to the luxury of having roast duck and roast pork available at every turn. It has become a regular one our monthly menu, and I am definitely not roasting duck myself !! The variety of Asian vegetables and dried goods are amazing and I never seem to be able to work out what to do with many of them. After living in India, I am still a bit nervous of buying fresh meat and fish from the markets but it's always fun to see whats on offer. Especially when you come across toads, geoducks and other seafood options, and every intestine possible. It is a smorgasbord of sorts !
As I kept heading west, I was amazed at how busy Causeway Bay is on a Saturday afternoon - that place is insane. I really do believe that shopping is a national sport in Hong Kong.
I also love the crazy scaffolding in Hong Kong. The bamboo that looks like it could never be strong enough to hold up a building. To the cloth mesh they surround it with, that make the building look like it is covered in a large spider web.
Wandering from Quarry Bay back to Admiralty station allowed me to revisit the area that we stayed in when we first moved to Hong Kong, nearly 2 years ago. Where has the time gone ? Lets hope I continue to stay busy in the coming weeks with my camera in tow.
