A day out in Sha Tin

We are currently re-visting some of our favourite things from our first few months of living in Hong Kong.  We haven't done too many touristy things but Mum was keen to go for a bike ride in Sha Tin.  So, we thought Sunday was the perfect opportunity to head out and enjoy some more of the sunshine.

Sha Tin is a really nice party of Hong Kong with mountains on either side and the Shing Mun River running through it.  It is lovely to 'meander' along the riverside and watch the rowers and cyclists along the way.  Or as Max called them 'Canowers' - a weird cross between a canoe and a rower !!

It was one of the hotter days in the last few weeks, so a long bike ride was probably a bit ambitious but we managed to complete half of the route to Tai Po and then return to Sha Tin for lunch.  The horse races were on this weekend but unfortunately they didn't start until later in the day, so we had to make do with seeing the track and stables from a distance.  The boys did get a bit of a heckling from an Aussie jockey about their Sydney Swans jerseys but that didn't stop them giving as good as they got.

We all managed to stay 'on board' the bikes and we all returned in one piece - even with a few near misses but mainly from other riders not obeying the cycle path rules.  However, I must say that there were a couple of sore butts !!

Lunch and a cold drink were definitely on the cards and then a swim at the local pool.  What a lovely Sunday out exploring Hong Kong.
