Apologies for the silence - the last week has been very busy with our move in to our new house. We have unpacked most boxes and are feeling much more at home. Below are some photos. The house appears quite big and we are enjoying have some space to each other. We are not on Hong Kong Island, so Mike's commute is about an hour, but the boys are close to school and we have space to move.
Max has settled really well into his school and is enjoying the new challenges he faces. Having Mandarin every day has been a bit of a shock and he is taking it very well. Jack has been at his school for a week and, yesterday, he had an additional assessment to see if he could start at the same school as Max. The fabulous news is that Jack will start there on Monday.
Schooling in Hong Kong is big business and we have foregone a fair bit of money to secure the boys their spots, but are very happy with our decisions. Come Monday, our morning and afternoon commuting should be much more civilised and everyone will have big smiles on their faces (including Mum)
I have also been looking for a helper to assist us in the house. It is fairly standard for everyone to have a helper in Hong Kong, and the 'industry' is quite regulated. Most of the helpers are from the Philippines and leave their families behind to come ad work here and send money home. It is compulsory for them to live in and there is a minimum wage set as well, so I would hope that means that most helpers are well looked after, but I am not convinced of this. Have heard horrible stories of the conditions some girls live in.
I have found someone who starts with us next week to help us with things around the house and with the boys. I am not so sure about the 'liven' scenario, but it's the expectation here, so hopefully things will work out. So happy with my bargain purchase of a bed with storage for Maria, and her room has her own small bathroom - see picture below.
Life is coming together, so hopefully I can get back to blogging more regularly. :)
