Kite flying in HK (Clearwater Bay)

Each weekend we are trying to see a bit more of our new home.  For me that usually means finding another hike to conquer, and this weekend was no different.  We are living in an area called Clearwater Bay, so today we visited the Clearwater Bay Country Park which is about 5 minutes drive from our house and has a good reputation as a reasonably tough hike.  I only planned to do part of it, as both boys were coming along, and I don't want to turn them off too quickly.

Arriving at the carpark to the visitor centre and the boys found the map that displayed the route to the Kite Flying area.  I knew that was there but I had other plans - the mountain behind us !!  Oooohh, it was big !  So off we headed to see just how far we could get before turning back.

The path was steep from the get-go and neither of the boys was phased at all - oh to be that young and fit again.  Just running up those hills with ease.  The peak we did this weekend is called Tai Leng Tung and is not for the faint hearted.  We ended up in the clouds with was fabulous and the views over the islands and neighbouring gold course was stunning !

After taking in the view at the top, we descended to go and find the lovely old men who fly kites on the parkland below.  On our way down, we say a Lamborghini bottom out in the gutter trying to park at the kiosk area, and it all put a smile on our face.  The boys have started to really like spotting fancy cars here in HK, as there are so many expensive cars to find - not sure of their favourites yet, but they do love the sporty ones.

The kite area has great barbecue and picnic areas, and then leads on to an open areas that is renowned for being a great place to fly kites.  One of the old men offered for both boys to fly his kite - so lovely of him and they didn't cause too much trouble, so all was good.  We are now going to have to go shopping for our own kite to take back and mix it with the pro's.

A lovely (but humid) morning was had by all.  We will conquer this country, one hike at a time.
