Sai Kung Country Park

We are very lucky living in the New Territories to have space of our own in our garden, but also to have public space available so close to us. This morning it pelted down with rain, so we thought a hike would be a bit cooler for us today (humid but cooler). Before we left, the boys decided a quick game of AFL in the rain was the order of the day.  They thought it was great.

Sai Kung Country Park is near the boys school and I needed to collect some dehumidifiers I had purchased, so it made sense to head down that way.  We drove as far as you can without getting an entrance permit for the park and then started our hike. Initially we did the Pak Tam Chung Nature trail but it was all a bit tame for us.  No hills and there was an actually path.  We are more for lots of hills and jungle-like trails.

We were looking for a particular trail I had read about online but we never found the start, so ended up going back to the carpark and heading on a different trail from there, and boy was it steep !  It was completely isolated and we were on our own the entire way.

The boys ran up the hills - crazy kids - but I managed to make it up with my dodgy foot and we even went a bit 'off road'.  At the top of the hill we came across many graves - seemingly for a whole family.  Strange place to bury someone but apparently it is quite common for indigenous villagers being allowed to bury 'near' the parks but not inside the designated country parks.

We had a lovely 'wet and humid' morning and are loving the fun of hiking in our new home.
