Early this week I mentioned to our helper, Angie, that she needed to be careful when outside in the garden or walking in the village, as there had been lots of snake sightings already this year. It was only the next day that I had her come panicking up to my office to inform me of the 'visitor' we had in our courtyard !!! ARGH !!!!
I sent the photos to the local Snake forum to find out what type of snake. The guy quickly informed me that it was a "Wow! Female King Cobra, and judging by the colouration and body fat, it's recently laid a large clutch of eggs. It must be hanging around to guard them."
It was then quickly corrected to be just a common rat snake. I have to admit that it still didn't calm me down very much. I will remain indoors for a while now :)
