Freezing but Fun ....

It is somewhat hard for us to return to Australia for our long summer school vacation to find it cold and 'wintery' here!!  Luckily at my Mum and Dad's the weather is usually beautiful most of the year, so we are never really hardly done by but the last couple of days have been very 'chilly' for the 3 of us.  Given we haven't really had any cold weather in India or Hong Kong for two years, we have acclimatised to the warmth very well and do not handle these cold snaps at all well.  Maybe I am being unfair to the boys and really it is just 'me' who cannot handle the cold.  Given that Max is usually running around in his footie shorts and shirt on ANY day, I think it is just me being soft !

Anyway, today was 'darn' cold and the windchill factor made for some very unpleasant outside time on the farm.  So I took the boys for a driving lesson in the paddock.  Jack has been having lessons with my Mum every other day, and has really grown in confidence.  I have to say that my Dad's work vehicle, affectionally known as 'Norm', has the best gearbox in history for teaching someone to drive !  Jack hardly ever stalls and we just mope along around the paddock doing turns and parking etc.  He absolutely loves it and feels VERY grown up.  He was so determined to get it right and is very excited about showing Daddy when he arrives in 2 weeks.

Well, there is no show without punch, and Max was desperate to have a go today, so I finally gave in. It was hilarious!!  We bunny hopped across the paddock, with Jack in the back tray falling all over the place from the 'hopping', and me sitting next to Max in fits of hysteria.  We couldn't stop laughing for about 5 minutes.  He never made it out of first gear (thank goodness), we made around safely, and he had a great time.   What a wonderful way to learn how to drive - that's how I did it :)

Apart from driving, the boys have been very busy helping Pop with lots of odd jobs on the farm and loving exploring on their bikes.  We have had many a conversation about speed and safety and it finally resulted in a day 'without bikes' .  A day to learn that they must slow down !  So, that left Max with the idea to give his bike a good old wash - what a good little helper......... well that was until he decided to wash it with the fuel breather hose off !!! Water in the fuel meant no bike for another half a day.  That boy is always learning the hard way........  all good now and they are back hooning around the paddocks.

Winter weather - what winter weather ??

Such fabulous concentration

Absolute CLOWN !!!
