HK Rugby Sevens 2017

On the weekend was the annual Hong Kong Rugby Sevens, and both our boys have played rugby this year for the local team, so they had the opportunity to play in the showcase matches before the main games.

We decided to be serious rugby supporters and attend all three days this year - woohoo !!   Max had his game on Friday, so we were at the stadium before gates opened to watch lots of young rugby enthusiasts have their turn on the pitch.  Max's team didn't do so well but had a lot of fun playing.

The HK Sevens is such a huge event in town with the majority of people attending coming from out of town – I think the local Cantonese are very accepting of the crazy behaviour that goes on during Sevens weekend.  The security staff do have their work cut out for them but they do an incredible job and are very accommodating.

The boys loved having a game at the main stadium and they had lots of friends attending, so it was fun all around.  Jack played on the Sunday (at 7am!!) and they managed a great win against the top side for the year.  We think the opposition were not keen on the early start !!

We managed to make it through all three days without any issues but poor Max was so exhausted from all the action, greasy food and sugar that he had his own type of ‘sevens hangover’ !!  His poor tummy didn’t react very well and was home from school on Monday.  Imagine what he will be like when he can drink at the Sevens ??!

Fiji were the final winners in the rugby and were definitely the best team on the weekend.  Australia did us proud and the boys were thrilled to meet some of the players as they made their way around the pitch!

Hong Kong Sevens is a definite must do when living here!

This little piece of red tape had a huge impact on the thousands of fans queuing up - we really did look like the stampeding type, so I was happy they knew how to control us :)

Max having a run

It was very early, so not much of a crowd yet !

We loved the opening ceremony with the dragons

Day 2 and the crowd was building

What can I say.....

Jack's turn

Autograph signing with the Aussies

Jack managed to dive on the newly painted ground and came up like a Smurf!

Fun in the MTR on the way home

It was a looooong weekend and we managed to still be smiling on the MTR home
