Track Cycling - new Adventures

Last weekend we tried something new and went to a round of the UCI Track Cycling World Cup.  It was hosted here in Hong Kong at the Velodrome near by us in Tsung Kwan O.  The stadium has a 250m track and can seat 3000 spectators.  It was only a built a few years ago, so very new and very well maintained.

None of us had ever been to a cycling event, so were keen to see what it was like.  We always enjoy watching the Olympic cycling events, so had high expectations for a fun night.  We had friends visiting from Oz and dragged them along too.

The facilities were great and we really enjoyed our night.  The Aussies participated well and won a gold in the mens team pursuit - gave us the opportunity to sing the anthem out load and proud !!

A night of cycling wouldn't be complete with out a few crashes and there were some serious crashes in the Mens Omnium.  This event has 25 starters and the last rider is removed on every other lap until there is a winner.  It is very tough and we saw some serious jostling in the race.  One of the crashes resulted in the Italian rider losing a LOT of skin off his butt.  OUCH !!!!

A fun night - highly recommend to go if you ever get the chance.
