High Junk Peak

Since we moved to Clearwater Bay, I have been loving the hiking that is available on my doorstep.  However, with my sore foot, I haven't had the opportunity to do as much as I would like and the uneven surfaces does cause me some issues.  However, recently I have had some relief with my foot, so I decided that I would try and hike to the top of High Junk Peak.

High Junk Peak is one of the 3 main peaks within Hong Kong and is only a couple of km's from home along a great local hiking path.  The actual Peak walk is off the main track and is quite the goat track and extremely steep !!  I have wanted to get to the top since I first hiked the trail but was never sure that there was 'actually' a path to the top but recently I found out that you can get there, so Friday was my day.

I have previously posted photos of the same path but I absolutely love the stone steps that start this hike.  During the week, this path is incredibly peaceful and you would never know that you are in crazy Hong Kong !!

The first part of the hike is fairly steep but the views from the top are well worth the sweat and shortness of breath.  The hike from there is actually fairly easy and is a well worn party that runs alongside a mountain bike track.

The final short but very steep increase to High Junk Peak is more of a goat track and is very rocky and uneven but to get to the top is well worth the effort.  The top of the peak has a very small platform and is a steep drop on all sides.  There was a touch of vertigo at the top but I am so happy that I have complete the challenge.
