This is why we love it .......

Our holidays at the farm are always filled with loads of fun and excitement, and heaps of new things to see and do. The boys love the complete change that the farm offers from their day to day life overseas - no traffic, no routine, it's all outside, filled with new things to learn and experience.  No two days are the same and the jobs on the agenda are always varied and fun.

We haven't even been here a week and the boys have had so many new lessons.  Both boys have new motor bikes, but Jacks' is much bigger and has a clutch, which he has had to learn.  A struggle to start with but he is getting better and better every day.  Every task involves learning something new, and usually one that they will remember for life.  My mum has been teaching Jack to drive in the work vehicle 'Norm' - and he is loving it.  They wander off down in to the paddock and he drives around stopping and starting and having a blast.  No automatic cars for Jack  - manual all the way!

We helped Pop fix his tractor by filtering out the fuel and then putting the fuel tank all back together - even I get to learn something new down on the farm ! I have to say, the boys love seeing me out getting dirty and doing things that are not 'normal' for mum.  Last year they were super surprised that mum knew how to ride a motor bike and could even muster cows on a bike.  It's good for them to know that I have many strings to my bow and can surprise them with the things I can do or will have a go at.

Today, one of the neighbour's mentioned he had a twin calf that was not sucking, and that he really didn't have the time to 'hand raise' it.  So, Dad offered to take it off his hands and bring it home to, hopefully, have a long life (well longer than it was destined for). The boys were thrilled to have 'Buddy' here and will love watching him learn to suck and get bigger and stronger every day.  He is the sweetest little thing, and will soon be chasing the boys around the paddock.  Learning the 'fragility' of life on the farm, is another great life lesson for these two city boys.

I could continue to rant on about the many things the boys gain from being here, but suffice to say, it is mostly the love and attention provided by their grandparents that make this holiday so special.  Nothing is more important to them then spending time together, whether it be playing a game or doing a chore, it's time spent together that counts.  The day will come when the boys are older and they won't want to be a part of this, and I am determined to let them enjoy this time now while they can, and while they want to.

Farm life is excellent !
Max loves checking the chooks out every day and bringing the eggs home in his pockets on his motorbike !!
