Back to weekend sport - LOVE IT !!

Mike and I have always had sport in our lives - and it was important to us that the boys have a love for it too.  The boys have used their sport as an 'in' while we have been overseas and now that we are back in a 'civilised' country, we are back to weekend sport.

The boys are currently signed up for Soccer and AFL and they really can't choose which one is their 'go-to' code.  The beauty of Soccer is that there are more kids playing and, therefore more competition to help with them getting better.  Whereas, the AFL is limited to mainly Australian kids and there just isn't the number of kids involved.  After the summer, they are keen to try Rugby and will definitely get back in to athletics.

Weekend sport is such a great way for kids to mix with others who have similar interests and aren't 'forced' to be a part of the group because they all want to be there.  Having school friends and footie friends tends to make for a greater social circle and its lovely to see them bond over sport.

Last weekend the boys were asked to play in an intra-club soccer competition.  So, off we headed for a day of football fun.  WOW, was it hot !!  Probably 35 degrees for the entire time we were there which made for some tough games.

Max played really well but sadly missed out on the finals.  Jack then had his chance and he played his socks off !  They got through to the finals and he scored an absolute ripper of a goal to have them one up midway through the final.  His defence was brilliant and they held on for the win.  What a great way to end the tournament.

Jack's team believed he was the only reason they made it to the finals, and told him that because of his great goal, he could keep the trophy.  What a nice group of kids.  Both boys loved it and were exhausted when it was all over.

We had weekly football training this afternoon and Jack's coach gave me the good news that he has been selected to try out for the squad.  This means a greater commitment by all of us but also greater opportunities for Jack in the future playing soccer.  He is thrilled and will get to try out when we get back after the summer.
